JOAN MAYMI

Joan Maymi's musical career began in Puerto Rico at the age of 12 when she participated in a rendition of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" sponsored by the Puerto Rican Children's Theater. Over the years, she has sung and performed in both community and professional groups.  These have run the gamut from lead vocalist of ‘Colleccion Latina’ band (singing salsa and Bossa Nova) to founding performer with ‘Nuestro Teatro’ with playwright and director, Carlos Ferrari. Joan also participated in numerous community theater productions and Gospel and interdenominational choirs.  She started as a ‘cantaora’ for Tablado in 2001, and after an extended 9-year hiatus, resumed singing with the company in 2010. Joan Maymi has a rich and vibrant voice and a talent for musical interpretation that engages even those completely uninitiated to the styles performed with Tablado.
