Directing and choreographing for Pasion Flamenca since 1998 and Tablado Dance Company since 2001, Solange Gomes inspires audiences with artistic excellence.
Born in Sao Paulo (Brazil), Solange Gomes received her fine arts training to become a dancer, musician and instructor. She attended the Royal Ballet Academy as a child and then went on to study several other dance techniques such as modern, contemporary, jazz, ballroom, and Brazilian folkloric traditions. In addition to her dancing, Solange is a musician having received a degree in Music (piano) and also in Physical Education. Since 1990 while still living in Brazil, Solange began working exclusively with flamenco as a professional dancer and choreographer. She has trained with many of the great Spanish masters including Sonia Castrioto, La Meira, Omayra Amaya, Alejandro Granados, Olga Pericet and many others. Solange also has the honor to have been accompanied by Antonio Andrade, Mariano Manzella, and Humberto Sales. Her extensive experience as a teacher comes from the fact that she owned and directed the Piano Studio Arts Center (Brazil) from 1986 to 1997.
Since moving to Utah in 1997, she has been teaching and/or choreographing for several dance schools in Utah, such as Ballet West and Utah Regional Ballet, as well as a guest teacher at the Northern California Ballet in Paradise, CA., and the Footlight Dance Center in Ketchum, Idaho. She regularly teaches courses and master classes at the University of Utah, Weber State University, Utah Valley University, and Westminster College. Solange was a member of the Utah Arts Council (Dance Arts Advisory Panel) for 4 years, and has been the regular Flamenco instructor for the RDT Community School since 2000. Solange has danced on television, film and radio and has also worked as a choreographer for musical theater.
A powerful and passionate performer, Solange is dedicated to sharing her enthusiastic devotion to flamenco with audiences, community and students with a commitment to preserve promote and teach traditional flamenco and also to develop new and original ideas in her own innovative style that is strongly influenced by her Brazilian heritage.
